Now in its 30th season under co-founders and Artistic Directors Maria Gobetti and Tom Ormeny, The Victory Theatre Center has produced hundreds of productions resulting in countless nomination and wards. But as impressive as those accolades are – it is the artistic vision and development of new voices for the American theatre that sets the Victory apart. By combining quality productions within an intimate playing space – The Victory Theatre Center offers a rich theatrical experience to the local community and to each person who walks through the door.
As Artistic Co-Directors of The Victory Theatre Center, Ormeny and Gobetti have dedicated their lives to presenting plays that are as diverse as they are exciting. This commitment has rewarded them with over 47 Drama-logue Awards, two Los Angeles Drama Critic Circle Awards, two Otis R. Guernsey Awards, and L.A. Readers Award, an NAACP award, several Los Angeles Drama Critic Circle nominations, several L.A. Weekly nominations, 2 Theater L.A. Ovation Awards, and a host of other awards and nominations.
As artistic visionaries, Gobetti and Ormeny have produced and directed numerous theatrical world premieres. Renowned playwrights such as Beth Henley (The Miss Firecracker Contest), Lee Murphy (Catch a Falling Star and Monkey Grass) and Donald Freed (The General & the Archbishop and American Iliad) are part of a roster of skilled and innovative playwrights with whom they have collaborated over the years.
The Victory Theatre Center is a multi-disciplinary venue consisting of two theatres, the Gobetti-Ormeny Acting Studio, and dramaturge and development division dedicated to nurturing new work by local and national writers.
Vision: To create community through theatre.
Mission: The VTC is a small theatre, but what’s experienced here is large. Small space cultivates closeness; shared experience creates connection and community. Our mission is to be a creative hub for audiences and artists to engage with one another through ground-breaking theatrical productions, educational opportunities, and social events in an intimate setting that can’t help resulting in intoxicating conversation.
